Message from Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall
Black History Month invites us to remember and appreciate the contributions of African Americans who helped pave the way to a better and brighter future.
I am indebted to those who came before me and carved a path that would allow me to be in a position that just a few decades ago may have seemed impossible. Every day that I put on my uniform, I am reminded what it stands for, and the weight of responsibility that comes with it. We must show people from all walks of life that they too can have a career in policing. Our people work hard to break down existing barriers and demonstrate that the King County Sheriff’s Office is an inclusive and welcoming place.
Right now, police officers across the country are under immense scrutiny and pressure. Much like the great leaders of the past, we must continue to act in a way that elevates law enforcement and what we stand for. As much progress as we’ve made, there are still mountains to climb, ceilings to break and obstacles to overcome. Let’s continue the journey together. Because together we can do so much.
“You can’t lead the people if you don’t love the people. You can’t save the people if you don’t serve the people.” -Cornel West, American philosopher, professor, and activist
