We evaluated the toxicity of Solvon K4 dry cleaning solvent; the LC50 was 45.7 mg/L. Therefore, unused or off-specification Solvon K4 product that requires disposal would designate as Dangerous Waste. [Project: Drycleaning]

We evaluated 16 shops that used hydrocarbon or Solvon K4 and found that efforts are needed to replace hazardous spot cleaning chemicals and ensure that wastes are disposed of properly. [Project: Drycleaning]

April 7, 2023 Estimating the Burden of Occupational Exposures in King County Among All Workers and by Race/Ethnicity: A Job-Exposure Matrix-Based Approach (2.48MB) This report summarizes an analysis of the hazardous exposures occurring in King County workplaces. We estimated that hundreds of thousands of King County workers experience occupational exposures, with the most common exposures including cleaning agents and organic solvents. We found that that BIPOC workers are disproportionately exposed to many hazardous chemicals at work.
May 26, 2022 Investigating aluminum cookpots as a source of lead exposure in Afghan refugee children resettled in the United States This study, appearing in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology and authored by staff from Hazardous Waste Management Program's Research Team, shows certain aluminum cookpots and pressure cookers could pose a serious health risk and expose people to lead, especially children.
May 21, 2024 Evaluating metal cookware as a source of lead exposure (825.78KB) This study, published in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology and authored by staff from Hazardous Waste Management Program’s Research Team, shows that aluminum and brass cookware available for purchase in the United States represents a previously unrecognized source of lead exposure.
