About the 9-1-1 communications center

The King County Sheriff's Office Communications Center is one of 12 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in the county, handling unincorporated King County, twelve contract cities, the Muckleshoot Reservation, the King County Airport, as well as Metro and Sound Transit Police.

Every call to the KCSO Communications Center is answered by a trained Communications Specialist who interviews the reporting party to determine response.

If a deputy needs to be sent, the Communications Specialist enters the relevant information into our computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, which is then routed to a Dispatcher. The Dispatcher radios the information to the officer, including any updates.

If the call does not require a deputy response, redirecting the reporting party to a non-emergency operator can help assess the appropriate assistance needed. Alternatively, guiding them to an online reporting website can streamline the process for non-urgent matters. These options ensure that proper support is provided efficiently based on the nature of the situation.
