Permit suspensions and facility closures: what to know
We strive to work closely with operators to ensure all facilities comply with Pet Business regulations. However, there are occasions where facilities continue to be out of compliance, which means we may need to suspend the permit. Circumstances that may lead to a permit suspension include:
- Three or more unsatisfactory inspections with uncorrected health and safety violations.
- Failure to comply with a Notice of Violation and Notice and Order to correct violations.
- Failure to cease operations after an emergency occurrence (such as a fire, sewage backup, loss of power, or zoonotic disease outbreak.)
- Failure to obtain an operating permit.
Information for pet businesses permit suspensions and closures by Public Health will remain online for a minimum of 7 days after the establishment's permit has been reinstated.
Current pet business permit suspensions
Date permit suspended: Tuesday, December 12, 2024
Facility: PJ's Pet Ranch
Reason for suspension:
- Failure to maintain sanitary conditions for animals
- Failure to repair damaged wood and wire in kennels
- Failure to ensure animal enclosures are free of entrapment and injury hazards
- Failure to prevent rodent infestations in animal areas
- Failure to maintain waterproof materials in kennels for proper cleaning and disinfection
- Failure to maintain buildings in good repair
Status: Suspended – eligible for appeal
Date permit suspended: Monday, July 29, 2024
Facility: Liesa's Awesome Aussies and Dotted Dalmatian's and Liesa's Purrfect Persians
Reason for suspension:
- Failure to vaccinate cats and dogs over 4 months of age for rabies.
- Failure to provide immunizations and parasite treatment.
- Failure to keep and provide records of animals on the property, sales, acquisitions, and dead animals.
- Failure to provide clean, uncontaminated food and water for animals.
- Failure to provide adequate groundcover to prevent mud and standing water.
Status: Facility is open. An appeal is in process for the permit suspension. The suspension is not in place during the appeal process.
Pet businesses operating without a valid health permit
For the health and safety of people and their pets, Public Health investigates pet businesses that may be operating without a valid health permit. If we find that a business is operating without a required health permit, we issue them written notice with information about how to obtain a permit. Business listed below have been notified in writing that they must obtain a valid health permit.
