The objective of this study was to identify nitrogen removal technologies for King County's three regional wastewater treatment plants (South Plant, Brightwater, and West Point) to meet future potential effluent nitrogen concentration limit scenarios.

This study evaluated both innovative and proven nitrogen removal technologies against each other in a progressive screening process. The technologies will be compared on many criteria, including cost-effectiveness, impacts to other processes, footprint, greenhouse gas emissions, and others. The most promising technologies or technology combinations will be developed into conceptual-level designs for further evaluation.

Based on the evaluation results, this effort identified costs and other considerations for the most feasible technology alternative(s) for each wastewater treatment plant and nitrogen effluent limit scenario at the current rated plant capacity.

Final Report can be found HERE (39MB).
