Precinct and district data

Download geographic data

In order to view or use both current and legacy geospatial datasets, GIS or mapping software is needed. Most files are compressed using the 7-Zip format.

Current geographic data

Download election district and precinct geography provided though the King County geographic information systems (GIS) open data portal. Individual district types can be searched for and downloaded separately as a shapefile, a KML file or a spreadsheet. If downloading a geodatabase, all election districts will be bundled together.

Types of files available for download

  • Geodatabase: A database or file structure used to store, query, and manipulate spatial data. Geodatabases store geometry, a spatial reference system, attributes, and behavioral rules for data. Geodatabases can be stored in relational database management systems, or in a system of files.
  • Shapefile: An open specification data format for storing the location, shape, and attributes of geographic features, it can be used with a variety of software programs.
  • KML: A (Keyhole Markup Language) file, an open specification xml notation format for expressing geographic annotation and visualization information, this can be used with several desktop and internet-based GIS browsers.
  • Excel spreadsheet

Legacy geographic data

Download legacy election district and precinct geography provided though the King County geographic information systems (GIS) open data portal. Historical precinct and legacy election district data can be searched for and downloaded separately as a shapefile, a KML file or a spreadsheet. Type the year of interest into the search bar at the top of the screen. Available data will appear below the search bar.
