The African and Caribbean Immigrant Community Equity Team (ACICET) is a collaborative, community driven network that serves as a vital bridge between Public Health – Seattle & King County and the diverse African and Caribbean immigrant communities in King County.

Our mission

Our mission is to ensure that all residents have access to health insurance and quality healthcare services while working to eliminate the health inequities and disparities that disproportionately impact African and Caribbean communities.

Our approach

Aligned with King County's declaration of racism as a public health crisis, ACICET is committed to advancing equity, building trust, and strengthening community relationships. We prioritize approaches that build authentic partnerships by listening first to community voices, ensuring that solutions are shaped by the people most affected.

Culturally responsive advocacy

  • We facilitate engagement that respects the unique cultural backgrounds, lived experiences, and voices of African and Caribbean immigrant communities.

Systemic accessibility

  • We expand language access and improve pathways to healthcare, public benefits, and essential social services.
  • We champion health equity, reduce uninsured rates and empower the communities through outreach, education and advocacy.

Strategic partnerships

  • We collaborate with trusted community-based organizations (CBOs) to provide health education, outreach, and sustainable support systems while uplifting existing community efforts rather than duplicating them.

Organizational support

  • We partner with community-based organizations by providing grants and technical assistance to strengthen their impact and long-term sustainability.

Capacity building

  • We train community partners to better navigate healthcare systems and advocate effectively for the needs of the communities they serve.
  • We develop new outreach strategies through working with our community partners to build meaningful community relationships.

Outreach development

  • We identify and establish new outreach locations in spaces where community members feel most comfortable, connected, and supported.
