Tips for recruiting riders
Try these tips to recruit new riders and expand your Vanpool or Vanshare group.

Emergency rides home
Check with your company’s Employee Transportation Coordinator or HR department to see if your employer provides a way to get you home by a shuttle or cab for these types of circumstances.
As a Vanpool or Vanshare participant, you get the security and flexibility of a back-up plan once you max out your employer provided benefits. This back-up plan offers guaranteed rides home when you need them most. Simply take a cab home—be sure to save your receipt—and Metro will reimburse you for the ride.
For new drivers and bookkeepers
All new drivers and bookkeepers in Metro’s Commuter Van Programs are required to take this online orientation and receive a completion letter. Once your application has been processed, your Rideshare Operations representative will contact you to provide your login information.
- Get authorized. Has a Rideshare Operations representative notified you that you are eligible to proceed? If not, please send us an email for assistance before starting your orientation.
- Review the manual. The user manual may be saved to your computer to consult throughout your orientation.

Safety and maintenance
Call your maintenance representative for fender benders, damage or issues with your van.
Vehicle security and maintenance is important to us! In addition to regularly servicing your vehicle, clean up spills promptly and remove garbage daily. Use your assigned gas card to purchase a basic car wash twice a month at a participating gas station. For more information on vehicle cleanliness, consult the user guide.
Roadside emergencies
Each van contains a packet of information in the glove box for emergency situations. Refer to the “Emergency Procedures” card for handling accidents or breakdowns.
Any situation involving vehicle or property damage, injury, or the potential for medical assistance or liability claim must be reported immediately. Regardless of the severity, report any unusual or emergency situation to our office within 24 hours.
Your monthly fare includes emergency roadside assistance. During office hours, contact your Maintenance Rideshare Services Representative (MRSR) directly. If you don't know who your MRSR is or if it is outside of office hours, call 206-625-4500.
NOTE: Expenses related to negligence, such as running out of gas or locking keys inside vans, are not covered. Be prepared to pay a roadside assistance company directly or use a personal service such as AAA in those cases.
Maintenance garages
Please check with your Maintenance Rideshare Services Representative (MRSR) at 206-625-4500 to confirm your assigned garage for van maintenance and repair.
Note: These are contracted facilities for King County Metro's express purposes and use or listing of these facilities does not imply any type of recommendation.
