About the advisory committees

We staff 2 solid waste advisory committees. These committees advise the County Executive and County Council on solid waste and recycling issues. They also assist county staff in developing plans, programs, and policies. This includes shaping the Re+ plan to reduce climate impacts from waste and our Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.

MSWAC

The Metropolitan Solid Waste Advisory Committee (MSWAC) is made up of elected officials and city staff. Members are appointed by each city in our regional solid waste system.

SWAC

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) includes members from across King County that represent:

  • People who receive our solid waste services
  • Labor unions’ representatives
  • Local elected officials
  • Manufacturers
  • Public interest groups
  • Recycling industry
  • Waste management industry
