- Property that was lost and later turned in
- Items that were stolen and then recovered by deputies
- Property taken during an investigation (evidence) and now cleared for release
In short, it’s any item the Sheriff’s Office is holding that needs to be returned to its rightful owner once certain steps (like identification or case clearance) are completed.
To recover property from the King County Sheriff’s Office, follow these steps:

- If your property was part of an investigation, it must be cleared by the investigating officer or detective before it can be released.

60-Day Pickup Window
- Once cleared, you have 60 days to retrieve your items.
- If not picked up within that timeframe, items may be forfeited.

Additional Requirements for Firearms
- All firearms require an approved background check from the Gun Compliance Unit before release.

- Valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport).
- Any paperwork originally provided to you, such as a notification card or letter.
