King County Elections and Seattle Foundation Open Application Period for Voter Education Fund Grants

MARCH 28, 2025

King County Elections (KCE) and the Seattle Foundation have opened applications for their longstanding Voter Education Fund grant program. The program is designed to increase voter registration rates and provide non-partisan voter education to voters who have traditionally been left behind. Over the coming two-year cycle, VEF will provide grants totaling $950,000 to community-based organizations who serve historically excluded communities.

In its ninth year, the Voter Education Fund has helped thousands of voters get registered, understand the voting process, and make their voice heard.

“The Voter Education Fund grew out of the idea that we need to meet voters where they’re at with messengers they know and trust. By providing grant dollars to community-based organizations who already have in-roads within their neighborhoods and trust within their communities, we are able to get accurate and reliable information about voting into the hands of voters who may otherwise go without a vote and a voice,” said Julie Wise, King County Director of Elections.

In the 2025 – 2026 cycle, two levels of funding are available:

  • Multi-year Level Funding: Selected organizations will be funded for two years to do voter outreach and activities for the 2025 and 2026 election cycles. Grants will range between $20,000 and $25,000 per year totaling between $40,000 and $50,000.

  • Seed Level Funding: Selected organizations will receive a one-year grant for smaller voter outreach events, and/or to acquire resources to be utilized for voter education, outreach, and/or registration events. Grants will range between $5,000-$10,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and awarded as long as resources remain available.

Community-based organizations can apply for up to $50,000 to develop a two-year campaign to engage voters or potential voters, or up to $10,000 to acquire resources to be utilized for voter education, outreach, and/or registration events.

“Seattle Foundation is honored to partner with King County Elections on the Voter Education Fund to provide critical funding for community-based organizations working on the frontlines of movement building and organizing work. As a community foundation, it is essential we do everything we can to support a thriving democracy and ensure historically excluded groups have an active role in shaping the systems that affect them, their families, and their communities,” said Alesha Washington, President, and CEO of Seattle Foundation.

The application period for the 2025-2026 Voter Education Fund is open now until April 28th, 2025 for multi-year funding and seed funding, with the possibility that another funding round will open if funding is available. Interested organizations can apply at Seattle Foundation’s Application Portal.
