On Wednesday, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn presented recognitions to Tahoma School District Assistant Superintendent Lori Cloud and Executive Director of Learning and Teaching Dawn Wakeley for their 43 years of combined service to the students, staff, and larger community that make up the Tahoma School District.

“Dawn Wakeley and Lori Cloud exemplify what it means to do your job with passion and serve your community with pride,” said Dunn. “As they enter their well-deserved retirements, I am proud to honor Dawn and Lori for the lasting impact they have made on generations of students during their decades of service to Tahoma.”

Both Wakeley and Cloud announced their respective retirements in 2022, and will be stepping away from their roles now that the 2022-2023 school year has ended. During their time at Tahoma School District, both Wakeley and Cloud oversaw significant improvements to both in-classroom and out of classroom systems and structures.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Councilmember Dunn,” said Wakeley. “I would not have been successful without our phenomenal team, and I’ve been so lucky to work alongside smart, thoughtful colleagues who have the utmost care and respect for our students.”

“Tahoma is a special place because of the people who are in our schools each day,” said Cloud. “Our students, staff, and community care deeply about each other, and I’m grateful to have shared so many wonderful experiences with our Tahoma family.”

Wakeley pioneered Tahoma School District’s Future Ready Skills program, an important and innovative program that helps Tahoma students prepare for their future beyond the classroom. Cloud oversaw funds that facilitated the building the new Tahoma High School and Lake Wilderness Elementary School and staff like athletics, arts, nurses and specialists, and classroom resources like Chromebooks and other technology. Both leaders playing a significant role in the success of students throughout their years at Tahoma.

“Dawn and Lori’s talent, work ethic and expertise is clear. What we’ll miss most is the heart and care that they’ve each poured into our district for over two decades,” said Tahoma School District Superintendent Mike Hanson. “They always keep students at the center of their decisions, and their kindness and integrity has carried throughout their careers.”
