Story
Today King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn announced that King County will be providing $25,000 in funding to support the IRONMAN 70.3 Washington triathlon, which is taking place this fall in Maple Valley.“In addition to being a fun event for people of all ages, IRONMAN provides a much-appreciated economic boost to local businesses in our region,” said Dunn. “I am glad to see IRONMAN return to Maple Valley and am proud to once again support it!”
Dunn advocated for the funding in King County’s supplemental budget, which the King County Council approved yesterday. With the vote, King County will allocate $25,000 to the City of Maple Valley to help coordinate for traffic control in the unincorporated area around Lake Wilderness Park, where the triathlon is taking place.
“The City of Maple Valley is very appreciative of Councilmember Dunn’s partnership to make sure that the 2023 IRONMAN takes place in a safe environment,” said Maple Valley Mayor Sean P. Kelly. “These funds will ensure the safety of the participants and spectators.”
Scheduled for September 17, 2023, the IRONMAN triathlon will take place in parks and on backroads in Maple Valley and surrounding unincorporated areas, starting with a swim in Lake Wilderness, transitioning to a bike along city and county roads, and ending with a run on the Cedar River Trail.
