Story
King County Councilmember Reagan on Wednesday announced that three organizations in southeast King County will receive retired Metro vans to provide transportation assistance to for low-income, elderly or young people, or people with disabilities.
These donated vans will help further the missions of the Enumclaw Senior Center, the Enumclaw School District, and the Black Diamond Community Center.
“These agencies in the Enumclaw and Black Diamond area provide invaluable services to seniors and special education students in our rural communities,” Dunn said. “It is an honor to be able to direct these retired vans their way to support their important work.”
The Enumclaw Senior Center will use their new van to connect seniors in the city of Enumclaw and across the Enumclaw Plateau with much-needed services throughout the rural area, and also for its hot meal delivery program.
“This van provides critical transportation service to rural seniors in unincorporated King County bringing them to and from the Enumclaw Senior Center,” said Enumclaw Senior Administrator Chris Searcy. “It also serves to transport meals to rural and homebound seniors as well as those within the City of Enumclaw. The Enumclaw community appreciates the efforts of Councilmember Dunn, the King County Council and Metro to allow these retired vans to continue in service to our seniors.”
The Enumclaw School District’s new van will help transport special education students to job training opportunities, and the Black Diamond Senior Center’s van will assist in transporting Black Diamond senior citizens to a weekly lunch program.
The retired van program provides county vehicles that have reached the end of their service life to local governments and community programs to provide transportation assistance for low-income, elderly or young people or people with disabilities. These donated vans provide mobility for a diverse array of King County residents, support the positive work of various local organizations, and relieve traffic congestion by reducing the need for single-occupancy vehicles.
Interested organizations can contact Councilmember Dunn at 206-477-1009 or reagan.dunn@kingcounty.gov for more information on applying for a vehicle.
