Story

King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer on Monday announced that the city of Federal Way will receive a $100,000 federally funded grant to provide financial assistance to small businesses and community groups. The grant, which comes as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021, is intended to help affected businesses and groups recover from the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although the recovery has begun, many of our small businesses and community groups are still struggling with the impacts of the pandemic, whether it was extended closures or increased costs. These funds will help these groups get back on their feet as they begin the process of returning to pre-COVID times,” said von Reichbauer, who represents District 7 and was instrumental in securing the funding. “I am pleased my request for funding was approved and small businesses and community groups in Federal Way will soon be receiving these much-needed funds.”

ARPA is a federal stimulus bill that was passed in 2021 and signed by the President. The $1.9 trillion package included funds intended to aid public health and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. King County received a total of $437 million in ARPA funding.
