Tuesday, July 20, marked Newcastle Councilmember Tony Ventrella’s last City Council meeting. Mayor Linda Newing and King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn both presented Councilmember Ventrella with a proclamation and recognition to honor his service during his tenure on the Newcastle City Council.

Dunn presented a King County Recognition for Councilmember Ventrella’s outstanding contributions to the Newcastle community and service to King County.

“Tony Ventrella has been a valued partner as a Councilmember and Deputy Mayor for Newcastle,” Dunn said. “Though his time on the City Council is ending, I know he will remain an important figure in the community. Thank you, Tony, for your many years of public service!”

Mayor Newing proclaimed the day as “Tony Ventrella Day” in Newcastle.

“Newcastle is losing an elected official, friend, and highly regarded resident and volunteer who has forever stamped his mark on this community,” Newing said.

"I want to sincerely thank Councilmember Dunn and Mayor Newing for their comments during my final meeting as a member of the Newcastle City Council on July 20,” Ventrella said. “I've known Councilmember Dunn for more than a decade but really got to see him in action since I began serving as Deputy Mayor in Newcastle. Councilmember Dunn really stepped up for Mayor Newing, our city staff and residents during the pandemic. As we all navigated uncharted waters from March 2020 and the months that followed, Councilman Dunn was there with advice and concrete solutions that helped the city of Newcastle, it's residents and businesses find light at the end of the tunnel."

Ventrella was first elected to the Newcastle City Council, and then selected as Deputy Mayor, in January 2020. Before his service on the City Council, he served for four years on the Community Activities Commission where he helped plan community events such as Newcastle Days, Concerts in the Park, Broadway on Boren, and more.

With Ventrella’s exit, Councilmember Tom Magers has been selected to serve as the new Newcastle Deputy Mayor. Ventrella’s Council seat will be vacant starting August 1, at which time the City Council will appoint a replacement to for the remaining two years of the term.
