The King County Flood Control Executive Committee passed a budget proposal that directs $300,000 to be included for the Butte Avenue Flood Mitigation Project. The project will reduce the flood risk to approximately 500 residences and businesses in the cities of Pacific and Algona by addressing backwatering and drainage problems in the Government Canal from high river flows. Upon completion, the project will also reduce long-term road closures that have occurred in the past due to flooding.

“I am pleased we were able to expedite the funds for such an important project in our region and I appreciate Mayor Guier’s advocacy in seeing this through,” said Supervisor Pete von Reichbauer. “From day one, Mayor Guier and King County were on the same page with our commitment to protecting the citizens of Pacific who live and work along the river.”

“I truly appreciate the relationship between the City of Pacific and the King County Flood Control District,” said Pacific Mayor Leanne Guier. “Councilmember von Reichbauer has been very supportive and instrumental in seeing this project completed. Having this project funded is extremely important to our community.”
