King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove announced today that Normandy Park will receive a $42,500 grant for open space preservation and environmental restoration in the Beaconsfield Nearshore area.

The city will use the money to make its 19^th purchase of a vacant parcel north of Marine View Park along the shoreline, which serves as important habitat for a variety of salmon, trout and other fish species.

Enabling the city to expand protection of local nearshore land, the grant presents a significant opportunity for environmental restoration along the Puget Sound coastline.

The grant is funded by King County’s Conservation Futures program, dedicated to purchasing open space lands and conservation easements across the county.

“This county funding will help Normandy Park with a critical piece of a larger shoreline habitat project so future generations can continue to enjoy the environment and quality of life that makes Normandy Park special,“ Councilmember Upthegrove said.

“The City of Normandy Park appreciates the long-term conservation benefit from this county funding support,” said Mayor Jonathan Chicquette.
