Upthegrove Announces $325,000 for Mill Creek Canyon Park expansion project in Kent

Summary

King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove announced today that the city of Kent will receive a $325,000 grant to expand Mill Creek Canyon Park.

Story

King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove announced today that the city of Kent will receive a $325,000 grant to expand Mill Creek Canyon Park.

The city will use the money to purchase a lot of land adjacent to the park and which, when combined with a previously-purchased parcel, will become a new southern entryway and trailhead for the park.

Expanding Mill Creek Canyon Park will improve the connection between downtown Kent and nearby neighborhoods, and will allow the city to preserve the park’s habitat for mature second growth trees, local deer, coyote and native songbirds.

The grant is funded from King County’s Conservation Futures program, dedicated to purchasing open space lands and conservation easements across the county.
“I’m excited that King County is partnering with the City of Kent to expand Mill Creek Canyon Park and make it nicer and more accessible,” Councilmember Upthegrove said.
