Today, Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn announced that seven community projects in the greater Maple Valley area will receive a grant from King County’s Community Service Area (CSA) program to help fund their efforts. CSA grants provide matching funds to projects that foster community involvement in unincorporated King County.

“I’m proud to be able to help these programs that are working to meet key needs in our unincorporated communities,” said Dunn. “I know this financial support will be put to great use by the people of greater Maple Valley.”

Seven projects have been awarded a total of $10,750 in funding, including:

• The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council received three grants totaling $5,000 to support their educational forums, update their website and produce a newsletter and questionnaire, and help fund their annual Maple Valley Model Train Show.

“Outreach is a core value of our work in Greater Maple Valley area and beyond throughout the Rural Area of King County,” said Steve Heister, Chairman of GMUVAC. “Because this funding helps us connect with more residents of unincorporated King County, we’re better able to foster neighborhood connections, as we continue to coordinate efforts with other unincorporated area councils and associations. King County residents all win when we build meaningful community and engage our residents.”

• The Lake Desire Community Club received two grants, totaling $2,250, to remodel the landscaping of their clubhouse and to fund their National Night Out event.

  “We’re excited to host our National Night Out Summer BBQ, thanks to this county funding,” said Phyllis Miller, President of Lake Desire Community Club. “This summer, we will bring neighbors together and build stronger community ties through our BBQ and two outdoor movie nights.”

• 212^th Ave SE Homeowners received $2,500 to fund maintenance to their roadway, ensuring safe passage to their homes.

“Maintaining or improving King County roads that are not maintained by the County can be a challenge,” said Richard Morris, spokesman for the 212th Ave SE Homeowners. “Having King County partner with a neighborhood group is a great way to achieve safe and efficient roadways and reward self-sufficiency. Our neighborhood group is very fortunate to have King County recognize and support us in repairing a bridge that is failing and unsafe. This funding from King County initiates our process and we’re excited to begin work soon!”
