Today, Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn announced that five community projects in the greater Fairwood area will receive a grant from King County’s Community Service Area (CSA) program to help fund their efforts. CSA grants provide matching funds to projects that foster community involvement in unincorporated King County.

“Unincorporated areas especially rely on strong community bonds, and that’s why I’ve made it a priority to support funding for unincorporated communities like Fairwood,” said Dunn. “I’m glad to have been able to help provide financial boost to projects that make our neighborhoods better places to live.”

Five projects have been awarded a total of $7,750 in funding, including:

• The Lake Desire Community Club received two grants, totaling $2,250, to remodel the landscaping of their clubhouse and to fund their National Night Out event.

  “We’re excited to host our National Night Out Summer BBQ, thanks to this county funding,” said Phyllis Miller, President of Lake Desire Community Club. “This summer, we will bring neighbors together and build stronger community ties through our BBQ and two outdoor movie nights.”

• The Woodside HOA received $1,500 to fund their Fairwood National Night Out event, which will take place in August 2019.

  “This county funding is critical to our ability to put on our National Night Out event this August,” said Amanda Heins, member of the Woodside HOA Board of Directors. “Neighbors will be able to connect with one another, forging community bonds and relationships that will make us all safer, all while providing fun for the whole family!”

• The Fairwood Greens HOA received $2,000 to support their annual Last Splash of Summer event

“All of us who are planning the Last Splash of Summer event are grateful for this funding from King County, and we’re excited to continue to bring our community together!” said Bonnie Lyon, President of the Fairwood Greens HOA. “From the volunteers who engage our neighbors, to the efforts we make to help inform people about the event, this is a completely community-centered event. Thank you to King County for this support!”

In 2019, a total of $27,000 in CSA grants was distributed to community projects in Council District 9. These grants are awarded through a competitive application process, and must be used to support community-led projects that help unincorporated King County residents participate in and be more connected to their communities.
