Balducci selected to County Council leadership position in 2019
Summary
Council vice chair will lead Budget and Fiscal Management and Regional Transit Committees
Story
Metropolitan King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci will serve as the County Council’s Vice Chair of Policy Development and Review after today’s unanimous vote by the Council. Balducci will also chair the County Council’s Budget and Fiscal Management and Regional Transit Committees. She represents King County Council District 6, which encompasses all or part of the cities of Bellevue, Bothell, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Kirkland, Medina, Mercer Island, Redmond, Woodinville and Yarrow Point, the Town of Beaux Arts and the Sammamish Valley.“I am honored to be selected by my colleagues to help lead the Council in 2019,” said Balducci. “As Chair of the Budget and Fiscal Management and Regional Transit Committees, I look forward to the opportunity to work on the issues that matter most to King County residents: transportation, housing and the provision of critical services in a cost effective manner. It’s no secret that as the County continues to grow it needs to prioritize and balance many competing priorities and I’m excited for the challenge.”
The Budget and Fiscal Management Committee considers and makes recommendations on the county revenue and expenditures, capital and operating budget appropriations, the sale and lease of real property, debt and investment proposals, bond issues, financial projections and financial policies. It will also be involved in labor agreements, the development of the County supplemental budget, and other federal and state policy matters that impact the fiscal well-being of King County. The Regional Transit Committee – made up of representatives from jurisdictions across King County – reviews and makes recommendations to the King County Council on countywide policies and plans for public transportation services operated by the County.
Since joining the Council in 2016, Balducci has chaired the Council’s Committee of the Whole, in addition to the committees related to County transportation issues. She will continue to serve on these committees in 2019.
Councilmember Balducci’s selection to King County Council leadership follows her recent selection by the Sound Transit Board of Directors to serve as Chair of the System Expansion Committee and on the Board’s Executive Committee for 2019.
The new appointments are part of the reorganization of the County Council for 2019. Balducci will join Council Chair Rod Dembowski and Vice Chair of Regional Coordination Reagan Dunn as the Council’s Leadership Team. The Chair and Vice-Chairs work together to set the agendas for meetings of the Council and Committee of the Whole and coordinate the referral and scheduling of legislation.
