King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert is issuing the following statement regarding the appointment of John Taylor as Director of the newly established King County Department of Local Services. County Executive Dow Constantine announced the appointment earlier this afternoon.

“John has worked in the unincorporated area and has already established some wonderful working relationships with the citizens he will be serving in this new role. I am excited that John will be taking on this new vitally important position, and I am confident in his ability to listen and respond to the unique needs of unincorporated residents around the County. I look forward to the formalization of this role, having a Director in the Executive’s Cabinet and making local government more visible and transparent.

“King County is both a regional and local government. This role of local government has not been as well recognized in the past as I would like. This is our opportunity to make King County the best run local government.”

The county’s unincorporated communities are home to 250,000 residents, which would effectively make them the 2nd largest city in King County. The new department will respond to local needs, streamline service delivery, and meet the needs of those residents by giving them better access to local government.

Taylor currently serves as assistant director of King County’s Water and Land Resources Division, giving him years of experience in leadership and service to residents of King County.
