Enumclaw receives funds to secure future of King County Fair

Summary

This year’s Fair will be held from July 13-16, 2017 at the Enumclaw Events Center

Story

July 2017 marks the 155th Anniversary of the King County Fair, a regional celebration of agricultural heritage and the oldest county fair west of the Mississippi. To ensure this long standing tradition continues for future generations, the Metropolitan King County Council today unanimously approved $25,000 to support youth programming at the Fair.

“I am proud to be able to support the King County Fair, and want to express my support for the City of Enumclaw and the Enumclaw Expo Center for their work in keeping this vital tradition alive and well,” said Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn, sponsor of the legislation.

The City of Enumclaw has operated the Fair in partnership with the non-profit Enumclaw Expo and Events Association since 2015. The County has supported the Fair by appropriating funds for youth 4-H participation in Fair events. In the 2017-2018 budget, Dunn sponsored legislation to set aside $25,000 each year for 4-H youth development activities.

“The Fair has been a mainstay in King County for generations,” said Scott Gray, Enumclaw Expo Center Executive Director. “These funds allow us to continue to provide families with great entertainment while creating a valuable outlet for local youth agricultural programs.”

This year’s Fair will be held from July 13-16, 2017 at the Enumclaw Events Center. Attractions include mutton busting, racing pigs, K-9 Kings, rides, vendors, food, live music, and more. New for this year is the Wenatchee Youth Circus as well as Jet City FMX, a Freestyle Motocross Show.
