Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci is a releasing the following statement on the President’s unconstitutional Executive Actions effectively banning immigration based on religious identity:

“We are a nation of immigrants. My family, like most others in this country, came here from somewhere else. The promise of our nation has always been to welcome the world and offer immigrants a shot at the American dream.

“Here in King County, we have some of the most ethnically diverse communities in the country. In my district, the city of Bellevue is now the largest city in this state where minorities are the majority. We benefit greatly from the knowledge and values that immigrants bring to our region.

“Every layer of government should use its power to stand for our nation’s values of inclusion and make it abundantly clear that ALL people are welcome in our county, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin or religion.”

Balducci supported the motion from the Council condemning President Trump’s actions as discriminatory, unconstitutional, and contrary to the county’s adopted principles and laws the Council has sworn to uphold.
