Adopted County Budget includes support for South County Youth
Summary
Federal Way Boys and Girls Clubs to receive funds
Story
Youth in Federal Way will benefit from the unanimously adopted 2017-2018 King County Budget, with Federal Way Boys and Girls Club receiving funds for capital projects.“Our children are our future, and we need to develop educational and recreational programs that help them become active, knowledgeable and engaged citizens,” said Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer, who represents Federal Way on the Council. “Updating and maintaining sports program facilities is paramount to providing families and youth with the tools and opportunities to build stronger communities for future generations.”
Federal Way Boys and Girls Club will receive $250,000 to finish the capital campaign to renovate their athletic fields. Originally an unplayable field, two years ago renovations began to clear the land of blackberry bushes and trees, along with an abandoned house. Fencing and perimeter plantings have been put in place, and the county funds will be used for the installation of turf.
“Artificial turf should not only be safe for the members, but last longer in our Pacific Northwest weather,” said von Reichbauer.
