Council leadership responds to State of the County Address

The Chair and Vice Chairs of the Metropolitan King County Council released this statement today after hearing from King County Executive Dow Constantine:“In a matter of days, the light rail expansion has already exceeded ridership expectations,” said Council Chair Joe McDermott. “We now have the opportunity to expand this service, ease congestion, and grow our economy. I'm excited to work with Executive Constantine to bring light rail to West Seattle and Ballard, and build the existing lines to Tacoma and Everett. And I'm committed to working to deliver this service as soon as possible.”
“Executive Constantine laid out a compelling case to build the transportation infrastructure we need to support the vibrant growth coming to Puget Sound in the coming decades,” said Council Vice Chair Rod Dembowski. “I look forward to working with him to advance this essential work.”
“The Executive’s speech today in Redmond clearly addressed his goals and objectives for the upcoming year and the years to follow,” said Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn. “I look forward to working with the Executive and my colleagues on the County Council to continue our work together to improve the quality of life for our residents.”
The Council met at Redmond City Hall to hear from Executive Constantine as he presented his State of the County address to councilmembers and the public. The Executive focused on the regional transportation system and the impact of the proposed Sound Transit 3 plan that could be placed before voters this fall.
