Council recognizes Mike Dunwiddie for a quarter-century of heading King County Aquatic Center

Mike Dunwiddie, Director of the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, was recognized for his 25 years of service at the facility by the Metropolitan King County Council.

RECOGNITION |
WHEREAS, Mike Dunwiddie has served as the first and only Regional Aquatic Center Coordinator of the King County Aquatic Center since it opened its doors to host the Goodwill Games in 1990; and
WHEREAS, through his leadership, Mike Dunwiddie has successfully transformed the Aquatic Center into a world class facility for general swimming, synchro, water polo, swimming and diving competitions; and
WHEREAS, over the past 25 years, the King County Aquatic Center has provided over 770,000 swim lessons and hosted over 1,600 events, including prestigious regional and international competitions featuring Olympic Gold Medalists Michael Phelps, Megan (Quann) Jendrick, and Nathan Adrian; and
WHEREAS, with Mike Dunwiddie’s vision for innovation, the Center is home to the largest OMEGA scoreboard system in the country, and is nationally recognized for its state-of-the-art air quality system, which saves $80,000 annually; and
WHEREAS, under Mike Dunwiddie’s stewardship, the Aquatic Center has become a vital part of the regional economy, bringing in $7.5 million dollars to King County each year;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, recognize and congratulate

for his leadership, guidance and dedication over the past 25 years in providing King County residents with a world-class facility to enrich their lives through participating in aquatics.
