Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer was recently awarded the Bill Kyle Service Award by the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce during their 6th Annual “Recognition of Service” dinner. This award is given each year to an elected official whose hard work and dedication positively impacts the greater Auburn community.
Bill Kyle made his home in Auburn with his wife Dolores, owning his own medical insurance agency. He was known for his service to the community and caring for others less fortunate. In 1994, Bill played a major role in saving the Auburn Food Bank from closing. In 2006, Bill also created the “Food to Go” program that fed hungry students at the Auburn Food Bank on the weekends so that they had a stable source of food other than school lunches. Bill Kyle passed away in 2009, but his memory in the Auburn Area lives through this award.
“I was honored to receive the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Bill Kyle Service Award,” said von Reichbauer. “Receiving this award from Bill's granddaughter, Cristina Orsini and his widow, Dolores Kyle made it even more personal and special. The Chamber named this award for Bill Kyle because of his service to the City of Auburn and the Green River Valley.”
Past recipients of this award include Washington State Senate Majority Leader, Joe Fain (R-Auburn), former Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis, and State House Majority Floor Leader, Representative Pat Sullivan (D-Covington).
Von Reichbauer was on the founding board of directors of the Auburn/Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, he was also responsible for getting retired county vans for local nonprofits (including Auburn Youth Resources, Valley Cities Counseling, South King County Multi Service Center and the Auburn Food Bank), distributed thousands of recycled glasses to the Auburn Lions Club, and has led efforts to encourage economic development in the private and public sectors to create jobs in the greater Auburn Green River Valley.
