Federal Way Street named “Pete von Reichbauer Way S” during Federal Way’s 25th Anniversary Celebration

State legislators, King County Councilmembers, Federal Way Councilmembers and the city’s key leaders came together during Federal Way’s 25th Anniversary Celebration June 20 join in the renaming of 20th Avenue South to “Pete von Reichbauer Way S”.
Located next to the Federal Way Transit Center, “Pete von Reichbauer Way S” will span to Commons Mall.
“I feel sorry for the officer who has to write a traffic ticket listing the street, but am grateful to the city of Federal Way,” said von Reichbauer.
Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell recognized von Reichbauer as a founding board member of St. Francis Hospital, a founding board member of the Boys and Girls Club (2000 Board Member of the Year), and past President of the Federal Way Kiwanis. In addition, von Reichbauer led the fight to bring the Aquatic Center to Federal Way, rebuild Redondo Road, secure the acquisition of Bingamon Pond and acquire the Hylebos as a public park.
Councilmember von Reichbauer was instrumental in developing the Federal Way Transit Center. This project was built on time and under budget. In the early 2000’s, the idea of building a large transit center in Federal Way began to gain traction. This project would not only include the transit center but also incorporate an HOV ramp open to buses, carpools and vanpools for quick and easy access to 317th street.
In addition to the two previously mentioned aspects of this project there was also a roundabout built at the intersection of S. 317th street and 28th Avenue S. This large scale project was a major undertaking and although it was first met with some criticism, it quickly gained support from both the government and the public.
Councilmember von Reichbauer’s work in South King County and Federal Way include the 317th HOV ramps on Interstate 5, and working with state and federal authorities to help construct the I-5 Triangle interchange in Federal Way.
