Dembowski applauds renewal of federal Violence Against Women Act

Summary

“An act that saves lives”

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski released this statement today on the vote by the U.S. House of Representatives Feb. 28 renewing the federal Violence against Women Act:

“As an attorney, I worked on a pro bono basis using provisions of the Violence Against Women Act to protect immigrant women who were victims of domestic violence.

“Its expansion to protect Native Americans and the LGBT community recognizes that this powerful law can save lives.

“I am pleased to see that Congress has renewed it. I look forward to seeing President Obama sign it into law.”
