Lambert to co-chair legislative committee

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert was appointed on November 29 as co-chair of the Legislative Steering Committee of the Washington Association of Counties (WSAC). She has served on the committee for several years and will share leadership of the committee in 2013 with Commissioner David Sauter of Klickitat County.

“I enjoy working with the Legislative Steering Committee because councilmembers and commissioners from all across the state get together and share their concerns as well as their successes in dealing with the many problems facing county governments in Washington State,” said Councilmember Lambert. “Our state’s 39 counties have many things in common, and we can work together when we go to Olympia. King County, as the 14th-largest in the country, also has some unique issues to deal with, so it is good to have partners across the state willing to work with us.”

WSAC is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that represents Washington's counties before the state Legislature, the state executive branch, and regulatory agencies.

Councilmember Lambert is serving her third term representing King County Council District 3 in Northeast King County. Prior to election to the Council, she served as the state representative from the 45th Legislative District for seven years.

“WSAC Steering Committee leadership will be meeting with state legislators to help counties in dealing with the many unfunded mandates from the state, as well as working on solutions to transportation funding,” said Councilmember Lambert. “Counties as an arm of the state government need the Legislature to know how laws are working on the ground and about the issues we are facing as we work to serve the citizens of our counties.”
