Councilmember Larry Phillips’ statement on the retirement of Congressman Norm Dicks

Summary

Dicks’ work had a tremendous impact on King County

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Larry Phillips released this statement on today’s announcement that Congressman Norm Dicks will retire at the end of his current term:

“I want to commend Congressman Norm Dicks on more than thirty years of outstanding service to the people of Washington and this nation.

“As the leader of the Washington State Congressional delegation, he has long been the go-to guy for King County to improve county services and the quality of life in King County. He has made a tremendous impact in the areas of job creation, water quality, transportation and transit, and the environment.

“He is ‘old school’ in his ability to stay focused and get things done without getting mired in polarizing political standoffs. History will remember Congressman Dicks as the best blend of Washington greats, Senators Henry M. Jackson and Warren Magnuson. In the tradition of Scoop and Maggie, he simply had the ability to get things done for the people of Washington.

“We in Washington and King County are significantly better off due to his remarkable service. Thank you, Norm.”
