King County Council declares July 23rd Washington’s Most Wanted Day

The Metropolitan King County Council today recognized the television show “Washington’s Most Wanted” on their recent assistance in capturing their 300th fugitive.

“This show has been a huge success here in King County and all throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Councilmember Reagan Dunn, the sponsor of the recognition. “The work this program does in assisting law enforcement officials is tremendous public service and the show and all involved deserve our highest praise.”

Washington’s Most Wanted began in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound in November of 2008. The program, which is based in Seattle, has expanded to include Fox Broadcasting affiliates in Spokane, Yakima, and the Tri-Cities, and the CW affiliate in Portland, OR.

“Law enforcement agencies always have relied on the assistance of citizens to bring criminals to justice, and Crime Stoppers has demonstrated great success in partnering with the public to apprehend suspects,” said Councilmember Kathy Lambert, chair of the Council’s Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee. “Getting these criminals off the street also helps prevent repeat crimes, so we all can feel safer.”

Washington’s Most Wanted was conceived by Q13 FOX Vice President and General Manager Pam Pearson and hosted by David Rose. The program is widely credited with assisting law enforcement in the Pacific Northwest and King County.

“More local crimes are solved thanks to the tips generated by ‘Washington’s Most Wanted,’” said Councilmember Larry Phillips. “The show allows viewers to get involved in apprehending criminals and extends the reach of our law enforcement officers, which is a great benefit to King County residents.”

“‘Washington's Most Wanted’ is an invaluable tool for fighting crime in our region and I applaud the program's hard work," said Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. "The capture of over 300 fugitives proves that justice can be achieved when local law enforcement officials have the means to engage with the community to solve cases."

Fifty-eight law enforcement agencies throughout the Pacific Northwest, including 20 within King County, have had fugitives featured on “Washington’s Most Wanted.” This program has been responsible for taking off of our streets over 300 individuals accused of crimes that include murder, rape, theft, and being an unregistered sex offender.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the weekly television program, “Washington’s Most Wanted,” recently helped law enforcement capture their 300th dangerous fugitive; and

WHEREAS, the program began in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound in November of 2008 and is based in Seattle; and

WHEREAS, in 2009, “Washington’s Most Wanted” expanded to include the Fox Broadcasting affiliates in Spokane, Yakima, and the Tri-Cities, and the CW Affiliate in Portland, OR; and

WHEREAS, the show was conceived by Q13 FOX Vice President and General Manager Pam Pearson and hosted by David Rose; and

WHEREAS, the program is widely credited with assisting law enforcement in the Pacific Northwest and King County; and

WHEREAS, 58 law enforcement agencies throughout the Pacific Northwest, including 20 within King County, have had their fugitives featured on “Washington’s Most Wanted”; and

WHEREAS, this program has been responsible for taking off of our streets over 300 individuals arrested for crimes that include murder, rape, theft, and being an unregistered sex offender; and

WHEREAS, “Washington’s Most Wanted” is focused on making communities safer and giving a voice to victims of violent crime;

NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, proclaim July 23, 2012, as

“WASHINGTON’S MOST WANTED” DAY

in King County.
