Metropolitan King County Councilmembers Larry Phillips and Larry Gossett will host a public meeting on major policy recommendations for Metro Transit set to be released next week. The Regional Transit Task Force (RTTF) Report will recommend new policy and system design factors for the Metro system, as Metro prepares to potentially cut 600,000 hours of bus service within the next four years.

The town hall meeting will include a briefing on the RTTF Report, a question and answer period, and a chance for public testimony on the recommendations.

Metro is facing a cumulative deficit of more than a billion dollars between 2009 and 2015 and expects to eliminate nearly one-fifth of all bus service in response. To respond to the crisis, the Council and Executive convened a regional task force of transit stakeholders to examine the current system and recommend major changes. After seven months of work, the task force is expected to release their recommendations on Monday, November 8 at a meeting of the County Council’s Committee of the Whole.
