On Monday February 23rd, 2009 King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer led the Council in a formal recognition ceremony for The Seattle Pacific University Lady Falcons Soccer Team who captured their first NCAA Division II National Championship this past December.

“The obstacles these ladies had to overcome were great and shows what strong-will and determination will produce,” said von Reichbauer. “After the heartbreaking loss in the Championship game a couple of years ago, the team came back with fire and emotion, grit and determination. These ladies have shown us what a true champion is like.”

Seattle Pacific University traveled to Tampa, FL in December to compete in their sixth consecutive NCAA Division II Championship Soccer tournament. The Lady Falcons finished the season with a 17-game unbeaten streak and outscored their opponents 52-6 during that stretch. The team was lead by 4-time Great Athletic Conference Coach of the year Chuck Sekyra. The Lady Falcons have made it to the Final Four in three out of the previous four seasons.

“The success of the Lady Falcons should bring great pride to everyone in the region,” said von Reichbauer “Winning national championships is a great accomplishment for the players, their families, our community, and Seattle Pacific University.”

The Championship was the 9th overall NCAA Division II National Championship for Seattle Pacific University.
