June 18, 2025
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn on Tuesday awarded Beverly Ni with the Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service, an award that recognizes individuals whose work has answered the question asked by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “What are you doing for others?”
“One of the privileges of my job is getting to work with inspiring community members who give so much to others,” Dunn said. “In an era that is often fraught with division, I've been incredibly impressed to watch Beverly's effectiveness as a bridge builder as she helps develop relationships between law enforcement and diverse communities in Bellevue. I greatly admire her passion and her dedication to this cause, and I am pleased to be honoring her today."
Ni has served as the Fiscal Manager for the Bellevue Police Department since 2019, where she serves a leadership role in managing the department’s financial operations under the direction of the Chief of Police and in close coordination with the Assistant Chiefs, command staff, and supervisors. Since joining the City of Bellevue in 2001, she has served in various fiscal roles within the city’s government.
Beyond her professional contributions, Ni is deeply passionate about community building and helping create a better tomorrow for Bellevue. She serves on the Bellevue Police Department’s Asian Pacific-Islander Advisory Council, one of seven advisory councils that work in partnership with law enforcement to foster trust, respect, and mutual understanding across cultures.
“I’m grateful to Councilmember Reagan Dunn and the whole King County Council for honoring me with this award. However, this honor represents the body of work the Bellevue Police Department does to build strong relationships with community members throughout the city. I hope this honor will encourage others in my community to continue their work building up our city and helping our fellow citizens.”
Ni also serves as the Vice President of Outreach for the Emerald Parents Association, a grassroots parenting group which organizes education and community activities for the Chinese community primarily in the Greater Seattle area. The Emerald Parents Association partnered with Councilmember Dunn to bring a successful and widely commended 2025 Lunar New Year celebration to the Marketplace at Factoria in Bellevue.
Ni is a member of the Washington State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and she holds a BA in Accounting from the University of Washington and an MBA in Financial Management from City University.
As a long-time Bellevue resident, Beverly is also committed to community service. Her volunteer work spans education, civic engagement, and nonprofit leadership, including roles as Treasurer for the Lake Washington School District’s Gifted Education Advisory Council (GEAC), Vice President of Community Outreach, and Treasurer for the ISPTSA. She is currently serving as Director on the Bellevue Police Foundation Board and VP of Outreach for the Emerald Parents Association.
This marks the 10th year that councilmembers have each selected someone from their district whose work embodies the spirit of King’s question.
