Hosting a town hall meeting on the Enumclaw Plateau

King County Councilmember Dunn at the Enumclaw Plateau town hall meeting

July 17, 2024  |  I recently hosted a town hall meeting on the Enumclaw Plateau, where I got to connect with folks about the issues that matter most in your community. I enjoyed meeting so many community members, in addition to sharing resources about permitting, recent updates on the Sheriff’s Office, and information about King County’s budget. Thank you to all who took the time to attend!

Hosting a town hall meeting in South Bellevue

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn speaks to the crowd at his South Bellevue Town Hall

July 16, 2024  |  Recently, I hosted a town hall meeting for the South Bellevue community. It was great to meet with many South Bellevue residents, share information about King County activities, and, most importantly, hear from community members about what matters to them. The most prevalent issues raised at the meeting were public safety, specifically crime and homelessness. Thank you to those who attended, and I hope to see you at one of my many town hall meetings in the future!

Dunn’s Fairwood traffic safety study approved by the King County Council

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn listens to community members at a Fairwood traffic safety gathering in April

April 2024  |  Last May, following a tragic fatal car crash that rocked the Fairwood community, I introduced a proposal to study options for improving road safety on 140th Ave SE and SE Petrovitsky Road in Fairwood. I am grateful to the King County Council for unanimously approving this proposal quickly. The legislation will take a comprehensive look at ideas from the community for improving road safety, including those raised in a community gathering in April—such as roundabouts, cameras, and increased traffic enforcement—so that together we can act to protect our community from dangerous driving. In addition, I was successful in advocating for $75,000 to fund increased traffic patrols in the Fairwood area.

Supporting Fairwood Market Night

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn cuts the ribbon on opening night of the 2024 Fairwood Market Night with Fairwood community leaders

2024  |  Fairwood Market Night was launched by community members in 2022 and supports local farmers, artisans, and other vendors while giving the community a place to gather. I am pleased to support the market with multiple King County grants, including a $10,000 budget appropriation from my office and a $3,500 Alan Painter Grant. It was an honor to be invited to participate in the ribbon cutting that opened the market this summer season, and I look forward to being back next year!

May 8, 2024  |  The Maple Valley Farmers’ Market is a wonderful organization that provides space for our community to gather while also supporting local farmers and artisans and increasing access to fresh, healthy food choices. I was proud to deliver a $10,000 grant from King County to help fund their events!

Delivering a Waterworks Grant to the City of Newcastle

Newcastle City Manager Scott Pingel, Newcastle Mayor Robert Clark, King County Councilmember Dunn, and Newcastle Public Works Director Jeff Brauns

May 8, 2024  |  I recently delivered a $120,000 Waterworks Grant to the City of Newcastle to support Newcastle’s Storm Conveyance Rehab Program. This project is repairing 1,620 feet of stormwater pipes that are mostly located under streets and are nearing the end of their lifespan. I’m pleased to support this effort to prevent flooding, pollution, and expensive emergency repairs that would result in higher costs to rate payers.

Support for athletics and education programs at Renton School District

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn with Renton School District Superintendent Dr. Damien Pattenaude, Renton Schools Foundation Board President Pam Teal, Renton Schools Foundation Board Member Lynn Desmarais, and Renton School District Director of Athletics BJ Kuntz

March 4, 2024  |  I recently visited with staff at the Renton School District and Renton Schools Foundation, delivering three King County grants—totaling $12,000—to the organizations. These funds will support the important educational programs at the Renton Schools Foundation and athletic programs at both Hazen High School and Lindbergh High School. I am always proud to support our Renton students and am happy to see these dollars going toward giving students more opportunities to learn and participate in athletics!

Funding for the Issaquah Food Bank

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn presents a King County grant to Issaquah Food Bank Executive Director Stephanie Noton-Bredl and Operations Manager Kim Skok

April 8, 2024  |  I recently stopped by the Issaquah Food Bank to present a check for $25,000 to support their work providing quality food, hygiene items, emergency supplies, and resource referrals to folks in need. I secured this funding in King County’s 2023 mid-biennial budget after seeing how food banks in our region are struggling to keep up with growing demand for their services. I am grateful that these dollars will go far to feed hungry people in our suburban and rural communities!

Providing a $2,500,000 grant to help build a new aquatic center in Covington

Covington Mayor Jeff Wagner and King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn

2024  |  I am excited to share that a major $2,500,000 Aquatic Facilities grant has been awarded to the City of Covington to help plan and build a new aquatic center. Since the current Covington Aquatic Center is near the end of its useful life, a new aquatic center will be a valuable recreational resource for over 150,000 individuals who live in the greater Covington, Maple Valley, and Black Diamond area. The City of Covington completed a feasibility analysis last year, which recommended to build the new aquatic center at the Town Center location. The Covington City Council has selected the preliminary recommended design, and construction is anticipated to begin in 2028.

Congratulations to the first place critter, Rooster the goat and owner Ariann Blakely, as well as the first runner-up Thistle Down the duck owned by Pera Cullens and third place critter Jill the rabbit owned by Kira Tucker. I’ve been proud to support and participate in the King County Fair for many years—it’s my favorite event every summer!

Celebrating the new Foothills Trail Bridge connecting King and Pierce Counties

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn cuts the ceremonial ribbon at the new segment of the Foothills Trail with local officials and community members, including Deputy King County Executive Shannon Braddock, former Mayor of Buckley Pat Johnson, Pierce County Councilmember Dave Morrell, Mayor Pro Tem of Enumclaw Anthony Wright

September 2024  |  I recently joined local officials and community members in celebrating the opening of a new steel trail bridge along the Foothills Trail, over the White River between Enumclaw and Buckley. This bridge connects two segments of the Foothills Trail at the King-Pierce County line, resulting in a 22-mile-long paved path that will be a local amenity for residents of the Enumclaw Plateau, extending biking and pedestrian access through Buckley, South Prairie, Orting, and Puyallup. I am proud to support this project and of the collaboration that took place so that our interconnected communities can enjoy this trail system for decades to come!

Ocotber 2024  |  I was glad to deliver a $10,000 Youth and Amateur Sports Grant to the City of Black Diamond to build a viewing area at the Black Diamond Skatepark that will include benches and tables. This is in addition to the $25,000 Youth and Amateur Sports Grant that I provided as seed funding to help rebuild the Skatepark in 2021. While the Black Diamond Skatepark is currently under construction, it’s expected to open to the public in Spring 2025, and I’m excited for the community to be able to enjoy it!
