King County Medic One

King County Medic One (KCM1) is a critical link in our regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, providing high-quality, advanced patient care to those in need. Responding to medical emergencies in South King County, it is one of five paramedic programs serving the region. KCM1 paramedics are trained at the world-renowned Paramedic Training Program at Harborview Medical Center in conjunction with the University of Washington School of Medicine.

The Medic One System is a concept of advanced medical care that was born in the early 1970s in Seattle and now covers all of King County. Our system is known throughout the world as a leader in pre-hospital research and as among the best of its kind, not for the heroics of the personnel, but for the participation of our residents who help the people in their community by:

  • Recognizing when a fellow resident needs medical care.
  • Calling 911 to activate the Medic One System.
  • Helping a family member or neighbor until Medic One arrives.

Medic One employment

Applicants for employment at King County Medic One can be either EMTs or Paramedics. All new hires must complete the University of Washington Paramedic Training Program – regardless of their past EMS experience or training.
