Eastside Interceptor
Eastside Interceptor (Section 13) Lining Project
Completed October 2016
Project description
In early 2016, work began a section of the Eastside Interceptor (ESI) in Bellevue. The ESI sewer line that carries wastewater from homes and businesses in Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, and the Sammamish Plateau to the South Treatment Plant in Renton. Work included:
- Installing pipe lining along approximately 1,360 feet of the 72-inch diameter pipe
- Excavation at three locations to allow access to the pipeline
- Installing erosion control, supports, dewatering wells and monitoring equipment
- Restoring areas disturbed by construction
This work is part of a program to restore corroded sewer lines throughout the regional wastewater system. Pipe lining is a cost-effective way of maintaining the sewer lines. It saves on materials and energy use, when compared to installing new sewer lines.
