Making Life Easier and Employee Assistance for Supervisors Programs 

On July 1, 2026, King County expanded the Making Life Easier (MLE) program for employees and renamed the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP is now the Employee Assistance for Supervisors (EAS) program. King County employees can learn more about these programs on the employees-only King County intranet. Additional information is also below.

Making Life Easier Program

MLE supports King County employees and those living in their households with work-related and home-related stress and issues. King County supervisors can seek support for work-related issues through the EAS program by calling 206-263-8733 or email DHREAS@kingcounty.gov. 

MLE services include:

  • Personal counseling for individual
  • Work-related issues
  • Marital and family problems
  • Legal consultation
  • Financial consultation
  • Adult and elder care consultation and referral
  • Childcare consultation and referral

The MLE program has counselors throughout the U.S., including a network of affiliate providers in Washington providing geographically accessible services.

Common questions about the MLE program

 Can my family members use it?

MLE offers a comprehensive range of resources, expert content, and tools designed to support and enhance emotional well-being for King County employees and those living in their households. From confidential counseling to online tools, you can access resources and support 24/7 in a secure, confidential, and user-friendly format at no charge to you.  

Does MLE have services for legal and financial issues, or child and adult/elder care assistance? 

MLE is intended for helping employees and those living in their households with challenging personal issues. It allows you to talk to an attorney in person or on the phone. All financial consultations are done over the phone, mail or e-mail. Additionally, Making Life Easier has a network of approved providers of child and adult elder care in which they refer employees. 

Is MLE confidential, and will my supervisor know if I have used it? 

Home and life-related stress and concerns: What you discuss with your MLE representative is confidential unless you make him or her aware you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else.

Work-related issues: Historically, the Making Life Easier (MLE) program focused on helping all King County employees with home and life-related stress and concerns. As of July 1, 2026, the MLE program expanded its services:

  • Supports King County employees and those living in their households with work-related and home-related stress and issues
  • Provides support to King County supervisors with home-related concerns. For work-related issues, supervisors should contact the Employee Assistance for Supervisors (EAS) program.

Who will I talk to and what if I want to see a particular counselor?

MLE has a network of approved providers in place. Call 1-888-874-7290 to find a mental health professional who is right for you.

What are the MLE providers’ credentials? 

When you contact MLE, you will always talk to a licensed mental health professional. 

Do I have to use my sick or vacation time to use MLE?

Home and life-related issues: Employees using MLE services should do so on their own time.

For work-related issues: To attend a work-related appointment with the MLE, work time may be used for this activity. Managers are encouraged to permit their staff to attend if possible while ensuring normal operations are maintained. If work time is utilized an employee must request time in accordance with the employee's department or division policy. Employee Assistance for Supervisors (EAS) 

EAS is a county resource that provides King County supervisors with counseling, coaching, consulting, and training. 

King County employees can learn more about the EAS program:

Both supervisors and employees benefit from EAS. The program:  

  • Provides supervisors with counseling, coaching, consulting, and training from the same internal King County mental health professionals who worked with the former Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Increases supervisor skills for supporting employees during a crisis or emergency situation
  • Provides supervisors with guidance on supporting our diverse work population
  • Helps supervisors with well-being and mental health topics such as coping with change, loss of employees, stress management, and challenging times
