Memorandum of Agreement: King County Metro, Federal Way School District, and Sound Transit
On January 27, 2017 King County Metro, the Federal Way School District, and Sound Transit entered into a Memorandum of Agreement to re-site Mark Twain Elementary school, resulting in a better school environment for students and improved connections for transit.

Council Approves to Rename Parcels in Green River Natural Area
On February 13, 2017 the King County Council ensured that land that Doreen Johnson worked to protect will always be apart of the region with unanimous approval to rename parcels in the County's Green River Natural Area in her memory.

Auburn Lions Club Glasses Donation
On April 18, 2017 3,000 pairs of eyeglasses lost on King County Metro buses received a second life through a donation to the Auburn Lions Club.

On June 10, 2017 I attended the 28th Annual Flag Day Celebration honoring Army Captain David Celski, a Federal Way High School graduate who served our country overseas, and 92-year-old nurse Florence Rigney, who still serves our region working at Tacoma General two days a week.

F.U.S.I.O.N’s “Under the Big Top” Event
On August 3, 2017, hundreds came together to raise tens of thousands of dollars at F.U.S.I.O.N.’s annual fundraiser to provide transitional housing in South King County. This is one more example of families helping families in their time of need.

On August 16, 2017, Congressman Adam Smith met with South King County leaders at the monthly “Good Eggs” breakfast meeting. Smith discussed his policy priorities for South King County in Washington, D.C, and his role as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, while emphasizing the need to work across the aisle in Congress to get results.

Grand Opening of the Federal Way Performing Arts Center
On August 19, 2017, I attended the opening of the Federal Way Performing Arts Center (PAEC). Art brings people together, and the diverse communities of South King County came together to celebrate the opening of the Federal Way Performing Arts and Events Center (PAEC). Music and entertainment have no borders--the PAEC is for everyone!

REACH OUT Federal Way Breakfast
On September 19, 2017, I joined Becky Vinson and Pastor Casey Treat at the annual Reach Out breakfast to help raise approximately $55,000 for overnight shelters and support services for adults without homes in South King County. Becky is the mother of Seattle Seahawk Jimmy Graham and she shared her inspirational journey from homelessness to naval service to adopting Jimmy Graham.

State Superintendent speaks to South County leaders
On September 20, 2017, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal was the speaker at the monthly “Good Eggs” breakfast, where he discussed changing accountability measures for our schools and the need to move beyond a traditional 9-month school year to compete in an international economy.

Receiving the Pioneer Award for building bridges with Korean community
On September 21, 2017, I was honored with the Pioneer Award for my early efforts in 1992 in building bridges between the Korean community and the City of Federal Way. Whether in the arts, education or business, King County has been enriched by the growth of the Korean Community. In these times, we have no better ally than the Republic of Korea. Gamsahamnida!
Pacific Levee Setback Project
On October 3, 2017, I was in the City of Pacific celebrating the completion of the Pacific Levee Setback Project. While no one looks forward to the rainy season, we are hopeful that Pacific residents will be safer as a result of the completion of the levee setback project. Thanks to Mayor Leanne Guier, Flood District Chair Reagan Dunn, and Executive Director Michelle Clark for their work.
Glasses Donation to Kiwanis Club of Federal Way
On October 4, 2017, I delivered “orphaned” glasses lost on King County Metro Buses to the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way. They will be recycled, repaired and then given to those in need. I have partnered with this club since 2001 to meet this need in our community.

Identity Theft and Shredding Events Continue
On October 7, I hosted my third identity theft and mobile shredding event of the year. Over 100 residents brought personal documents to the Federal Way Farmers Market to be shredded and learned about different ways to prevent identity theft.
Filipino American History Month Proclaimed
On October 16, the King County Council proclaimed Filipino American History Month in King County, with a special tribute to the Filipino World War II veteran recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal. After the recognition, I had the opportunity to meet with Brigadier General (Ret.) Oscar Hilman, who served with me in the U.S. Army. He has brought credit to his family, friends and uniform by his service.

Increase of juvenile violence brings three police chiefs to “Good Eggs” breakfast meeting
On October 18, 2017, police chiefs from Auburn, Kent, and Federal Way discussed methods to address growing juvenile gang and gun violence in our communities at the monthly “Good Eggs” breakfast meeting with South King County leaders.

“Retired” vans benefit South King County non-profit organizations
In October, I was able to see the "retired" King County vans that were recently donated to the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, Nexus Youth and Families in Auburn, and Communities in Schools of Federal Way. Since 1996, more than 550 vans have been donated to local governments and community organizations, the van donation program is an example of government at its best.

Council recognizes 20th anniversary of citizen effort to save the Seahawks
October 30 – The King County Council celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the effort that became known as “Save Our Seahawks,” the successful campaign to keep the team in the region after it was put up for sale. I was proud to work with Microsoft co-Founder Paul Allen, who purchased the team in 1997. The Seahawks are also here today because volunteers and voters came together to support funding for a new stadium. One of many is Patty Hammond, known as “Mama Blue.” To learn more about this “super fan,” please watch the NFL produced video on Facebook.

State Economic Forecast Presented to South King County Leaders at “Good Eggs” breakfast meeting
Washington State’s economic forecast for 2018 was the topic of discussion at the November 15th, 2017 “Good Eggs” breakfast meeting. Dr. Steve Lerch, Executive Director and Chief Economist of the Washington State Economic Revenue and Forecast council, discussed the opportunities, challenges and expectations for our state’s economy as we move into 2018.

Town Hall featured leaders from King County Elections, Public Health, Libraries, Metro, and Sheriff’s Office
On Tuesday, December 5, 2017, Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer met with nearly 80 residents at a Town Hall on Public Health and County Services. Hosted by von Reichbauer at Thomas Jefferson High School, it featured leaders from King County Elections, Public Health, Libraries, Metro, and Sheriff’s Office.

Director of Public Health joins South King County leaders for holiday “Good Eggs”
On December 6, 2017, Patty Hayes, Director of Public Health Seattle & King County, discussed strategies for preventing the spread of communicable diseases, and answered questions about the impact our region’s homelessness crisis is having on community health at my December Good Eggs breakfast.
