Attend your Superior Court Civil Protection Order or Family Law motion hearing

All family law hearings (Civil Protection Order and Family Law Motions) are available in person or through Zoom.  Check the status of your motion, the physical location, and obtain Zoom information up to 3 days before your scheduled hearing.


ATTENTION: Please know that your hearing can happen at any King County courthouse, depending on which courtrooms and judges or commissioners are available. This means your hearing might take place in Kent or at the Clark Children and Family Justice Center, even if it is labeled SEA, and the same is true the other way around. It is your responsibility to check the online calendar to make sure you know where you go.

To appear for your Civil Protection Order or Family Law motion hearing

  1. Find your hearing on the calendar at least one day before the scheduled date

    Zoom and physical location information is posted on the calendar two days before your hearing. Please check that you can find your hearing on the list before your hearing date. Hearings are listed by case number and party names.

    It is a good idea to double-check on the morning of your hearing. Sometimes physical locations are changed at the last minute. If your case is moved to another courthouse and you are already at court, you can either attend your hearing via Zoom on your cell phone, or you can let a Coordinator know that you need time to get to the other courthouse so you can attend in person. 

    The calendars are separated by Morning (8:30 am check-in) for Civil Protection Orders and Afternoon (1 pm check-in) for Family Law motions:

    If you cannot access Zoom for your hearing, you can use the phone number provided on the calendar for your assigned Courtroom.

    If your motion is not on the list

    If the date of your motion has been posted, but you don't see your case on the list, it may not have been properly scheduled, or it was not confirmed.

    You can see whether your motion was scheduled on the calendar by visiting the Family Law Motions Scheduling Calendar, selecting the location (Seattle or Kent), and clicking on the motion title ("Attorney Represented," "Self-Represented," "TBA calendar," etc.). This will tell you if your case is scheduled, not confirmed, or if it was stricken.

    If your case is stricken or is not listed on the calendar, and you do not have an attorney, you can contact Family Law Staff at the email address above to find out why your case was not scheduled to go forward.   2. How to Join Your Zoom Hearing if not Coming in Person

    You can use Zoom on a computer or on your phone.

    To join your Zoom hearing, find your name in the online hearing list above at least 5 minutes before your scheduled hearing time and click the Zoom Link for the courtroom where your name is listed.

    Once you have entered the meeting, you will be placed in a waiting room. You will see a virtual courtroom and the courtroom number. A coordinator will let you into the virtual courtroom when court begins. Be prepared to provide your name and/or case number if you are a party or to identify yourself as an observer if you are not a named party.

    If you are on time for your hearing and you are not let into the meeting within 15 minutes after your scheduled hearing time, please email: FamilyLawStaffSeattle@KingCounty.gov for Seattle cases or FamilyLawStaffMRJC@KingCounty.gov for Kent cases.

    **DO NOT LEAVE THE WAITING ROOM while waiting for a response from court staff.

  3. Settings and check-in

    Mute yourself and turn off your camera until you are called on. Rename yourself with your last name, first name (example: "Doe, Jane").

    If you get disconnected on accident you can click the link again or call the associated phone number and you will be let back into the meeting.

    The coordinator will perform a check-in. Please remain muted and do not speak until your name or case number is called.

  4. After check-in, wait for your hearing

    Treat the video conference hearing as though you were in the physical courtroom. When called, identify yourself each time you speak. Remember there are other people present for their hearings too.

    After check-in, wait and remain muted with your camera off until the court is ready for your hearing. 

    If your hearing is on the 8:30 am calendar it may start at any time between 8:30 and noon.

    For the 1 pm calendar, your hearing may start at any time between 1 and 4 pm.

    After your hearing is over you are welcome to leave the meeting.
