Judge Elizabeth D. Stephenson

Judge Elizabeth D. Stephenson was first elected to the bench in 2002. Throughout her time as a judge, she has been committed to being a good steward of the responsibilities entrusted to her by the citizens of her judicial district. She is faithful to the law as written and faithfully applies the law to the facts of each particular case.

In 2010, Judge Stephenson was appointed to the Board of Judicial Administration (BJA) Public Trust & Confidence Committee. She was re-appointed for an additional term in 2012.  Judge Stephenson has also served as a member of the Washington State District and Municipal Courts Judges Association (DMCJA) Rules Committee, as well as the DMCJA Department of Licensing (DOL) Liaison Committee.  During her last twenty years on the bench for King County District Court, Judge Stephenson has served on a variety of committees, including the Rules Committee, Technology Committee, Probation Committee and Case Management System (CMS) Committee.   She has also served as a portability judge for King County Superior Court. 

In 2023, the Washington State Association for Justice presented Judge Stephenson with the William O. Douglas Judicial Service Award.

Judge Stephenson is currently assigned to mainstream civil. She is one of three judges that handles all of the mainstream civil cases for the entire Court.
