Story
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn on Tuesday announced that three projects impacting the Greater Maple Valley area will receive a total of $100,000 funding in the latest King County biennial budget.
“I am proud to be able to advocate for these investments in the greater Maple Valley area during King County’s budget process,” Dunn said. “These are projects that will further enrich our wonderful community, and I’m glad they will receive this critical funding.”
Greater Maple Valley Community Center (GMVCC) will receive $10,000 to provide support as they begin planning for a new community center. The construction of a new, expanded community center to replace the current facility has been a long-discussed potential that would provide more indoor space for additional recreational activities and human services. This funding will provide GMVCC board members with fiscal and legal training related to the rebuild, support marketing, and finance an update to their customer relationship management system.
“The City of Maple Valley is very appreciative of Councilmember Dunn and the King County Council for continuing to support our local organizations to meet the needs of our community partners,” Mayor Sean P. Kelly said. “That’s what makes Maple Valley a special place to live — because of our partnerships.”
Another $80,000 was allocated to move the Greater Maple Valley Community Center’s electronic reader board on Witte RD SE, a project to be completed through a partnership between the City of Maple Valley and the Community Center. This would replace an existing reader board that frequently loses power and needs to be farther away from the roundabout and crosswalk for ease of readability.
In addition, Dunn selected the following organizations to receive $17,500 in County grants
- Tahoma School Foundation received a $2,000 Community Service Operating Grant
- Maple Valley Historical Society received a $2,000 Community Service Operating Grant
- VFW 5052 - Maple Valley/Black Diamond received a $2,500 Veterans Service Organization Grant
- The City of Maple Valley received a $5,000 Youth and Amateur Sports Grant
- RMD Community Sports Association/Rock Creek Sports received a $5,000 Youth and Amateur Sports Grant
- Tahoma High School received a $10,000 Youth and Amateur Sports Grant
This funding was approved Tuesday by the King County Council as a part of King County’s 2023-2024 biennial budget.
