Metropolitan King County Council
The Metropolitan King County Council oversees the second largest government and the most populous county in Washington State. With more than 2.3 million residents, King County is the 12th largest county in the U.S. As the legislative branch of county government, the Council sets policies, enacts laws, and adopts budgets that guide an array of services for county residents. The Council's nine councilmembers are elected on a non-partisan basis and serve four-year terms. Each councilmember represents a geographical district of over 260,000 residents. Read more.

Comprehensive Plan Approved
On December 10, the Council approved the 2024 King County Comprehensive Plan, making updates that will help increase housing stock, support transportation, and improve environmental protections while planning for resiliency against inevitable climate changes. This once-a-decade legislation represents six months of work to integrate community input and build upon the plan transmitted to Council by the Executive last December. Read details.
King County approves 2025 budget
On November 19, the King County Council approved a $10.2 billion, one-year county budget that invests in critical regional priorities, including public safety, public health, public defense, and comprehensive planning, along with millions of dollars for affordable housing and other capital projects across the county. The King County Council values community input and looks forward to hearing from you. Public comments are restricted to items on the current meeting agenda, except on the fourth Tuesday of the month, when you may comment on any matter related to King County government. You are not required to sign up in advance.
