Dunn: Wastewater must be kept out of waterways and off beaches

Summary

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn issued a statement Wednesday after the Mobility and Environment Committee approved his legislation to require an extensive report and recommendations to prevent future wastewater spills like those on January 13.

Story

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn issued the following statement Wednesday as the Mobility and Environment Committee approved his legislation to require an extensive report and recommendations to prevent future wastewater spills like those on January 13:

“King County must take a hard look at how these spills happened and stop them from happening again. It’s a tragedy and shame that repeated leaks of untreated wastewater continue to tarnish the Puget Sound and Lake Washington, damaging ecosystems and fouling our beaches.

“We owe it to our children, and to our children’s children, to be good stewards of our natural resources and strengthen our efforts to restore the Puget Sound back to a pristine state.”
