Statement from Council Chair Larry Phillips on Supreme Court’s Ruling on Marriage Equality

Summary

Metropolitan King County Council Chair Larry Phillips released this statement upon the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality.

Story

Metropolitan King County Council Chair Larry Phillips released this statement upon the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality:

“The Supreme Court today decisively made marriage available to all Americans  -- affirming once again that “Equality Under the Law” is more than aspirational, it must be real for every citizen. This decision supports couples, families and parents, providing lawful and institutional support for loving, committed relationships across the country.  We are no longer required to distinguish marriage as gay or straight – we can just say and celebrate marriage.  Today is a great day for equality, and for America.”
