County Council committee to review Metro system performance, preview potential transit service cuts

Summary

Story

The Metropolitan King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee (TrEE) will receive a briefing on the King County Metro Transit 2012 Service Guidelines Report. The report includes a preliminary look at what routes would likely be impacted by a 600,000-hour reduction in service to the current transit system, due to a $75 million annual shortfall in available transit funding starting in late 2014:

                                                Tuesday, April 2nd
                                                          9:30 a.m.
                                          Council Chambers, 10th floor
King County Courthouse, 516 Third Ave., Seattle

In 2011, the council adopted the Strategic Plan for Public Transportation 2011-2021, which guides Metro policy and transit service planning. Metro has submitted the second Annual Service Guidelines Report measuring the performance of 217 Metro bus routes. The report details how the service guidelines and route performance data would shape Metro’s proposal for cutting 17 percent of the system beginning in 2014 if stable, sufficient revenue isn’t obtained.
