City of Algona Community Center receives retired King County van

Summary

Story

Algona van donation

(Left to Right: King County Staff Agnes Wooters, Mayor of Algona Dave Hill, King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer, Vicky Gartner of Home Town Community Services)

On November 2, I delivered a retired Metro van to Algona Mayor Dave Hill for transportation of senior citizens to their community center. I know that this van will be put to good community service by the city of Algona.

In 1996, the Metropolitan King County Council passed legislation, which I created when I was Budget Chair, transferring passenger vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments that meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young people in our community.

Since then, the King County Council has distributed over 260 retired vans to various non-profit organizations. After eight years in the King County Fleet Division, the vans are retired and prepared for donation.
